Lady Kitt Artist Statement: I am a live artist. In socially engaged practice I explore creative ownership, private and public rituals associated with creativity, and the mythology of the artist; looking at the role of the audience in the realisation of work. I use theatre/fine art traditions and information technology to open lines of communication between viewer, work and artist thus inviting the relationships between these elements to transform. I am particularly interested in subverting British folk art and performance to explore Britishness and the significance of culture in national identity. Through performances, interruptions and interventions I offer viewers the opportunity to become involved in both activities and ideas. Regularly using everyday materials; things that most people have access to, often using items that are a little absurd. In a recent performance I asked viewers to make pictures with instant gravy. In my work virtual space functions as an egalitarian platform, allowing individuals the freedom to perform (sometimes otherwise hidden) aspects of their identity. Traditionally in performance art, the artist has become the object. Performing via virtual space allows the artist, art and viewer to all become non-objects. Reduced to binary digits, with no fixed meaning or being; these elements can successfully metamorphose, establishing a new context for making sharing, appreciating and being art. I am interested in making art that is accessible, seductive, ethical, intelligent, skilled, and entertaining. I am not interested in making art that is popularized, sexualized, Politicized, or thoughtlessly consumable. I am utterly dedicated to making art available to as many people as possible.
